PRACTICAL LIFE

Practical life is a fundamental part of the Montessori theory, and it plays a large role in the curriculum at hummingbird. Many of our activities expand on practical life learning and developing fine motor skills. Some of these include pouring, gardening, cooking, and buttoning.

Practical skills learned at school can (and should!) be used at home as well. Families are encouraged to invite their children to participate in daily tasks to help contribute to the family community. Some of the tasks our children regularly practice are folding laundry, setting the table for meals, washing dishes, putting away silverware, and tidying toys. These activities are important self care skills and they help solidify the idea of contributing to a larger system or community around them.

Schedule a visit to come see these activities in action! We love these just as much as the kids do.
