Hummingbird Montessori Preschool is a welcoming learning environment, providing high quality care to children in the Bay Area since 1996. It is nestled in Albany, in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, amidst an excellent K-12 public school district (AUSD).
Hummingbird places an emphasis on allowing children a safe and fun social environment in which to explore their interests and talents of all kinds. At Hummingbird, we believe a healthy preschool experience is key to a child's success in all future education.

Jeanne Devin, Director & Head Teacher
Jeanne has been a preschool teacher in the Bay Area for 31 years. She started Hummingbird Montessori in 1996, and is thrilled with what the school has become. She has a BA in Childhood Development from Mills College and is a highly qualified Montessori teacher (AMS Certified) as well. When she isn't teaching, she enjoys doing yoga, hiking the beautiful bay area trails, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her daughter, Lucy.
Lamia Bounkar, Assistant Teacher
Lamia is a mother of two and graduated from the University of Algeria in 2007 with a BA in library science and documentation. Lamia has 7 years of experience teaching toddlers and preschoolers. She speaks fluent French Arabic. During her time off she likes to take her kids to the park. Lamia loves working with children and finding herself with them.
Joe Weaver, Assistant Teacher
Joe is a father of two and has been a Montessori teacher for over 30 years. He has a BA degree from JFK university and a Montessori certification from St. Mary‘s College of Letters and Science. In his spare time, Joe likes to go hiking with his wife of 33 years and their two small dogs. Joe also belongs to a local ballet company and has danced with them for many years. When he is not dancing or hiking, you can find Joe working in the garden, puzzling out a sudoku or reading a good book.
Alex Riley, Teacher Aid
Alex is a recent graduate from Albany High School. Starting in high school, Alex earned Early Childhood Development credit from Merritt College and is currently working towards his Associate Teacher’s Permit. During high school and middle school Alex was an assistant in the adaptive physical education class and has worked at a few summer camps with preschool and elementary school-aged children. In his spare time, Alex enjoys spending time with his family, healthy cooking, playing his guitar, playing with his puppy, and collecting Magic the Gathering trading cards.
